Shell House Showcase: Neptune's Grotto, Dubrovnik

Trsteno Arboretum dates from c1494. It is the oldest in Europe and a perfect setting for this late 18th century rusticated grotto.

We were totally unprepared for its Baroque theatricality.

With only a handful of tourists we were able to experience a retreat with spectacular views of the Adriatic!
