SCOTLAND

The main house (1720), was built for Sir James Dalrymple. Internal shell motifs echo those of the Shell House built in1760 ( now ruinous), which was part of an elaborate Pleasure Garden. This is now a Scottish National Trust site and is near Edinburgh.

Ossian's Hermitage and Grotto,, Perthshire, Scotland. Set high above a narrow ravine with cascades. Popular C18 tourist attraction 
Hermit's Grotto (Ossian's Retreat) is in heavily wooded area upstream.

18th Century Ice House, Firth of Forth.

C1790. The neoclassical house was built to the plans of Robert Adam and home to the Earls of Wemyss. The late 18th century Ice House is made from tufa with shell and pebble decoration around the arches.
